Monday's Move: Walk!
Nov 2, 2015

While you're walking, stand a little taller. Breathe fullness into your upper back. Connect with strength around your middle. Notice if your shoulders are rounding forwards and fight that habit

Monday's Move: Sassy Cat
Oct 26, 2015

The cat pose should be in everyone's daily repertoire! Before you climb out of bed in the morning, while you pick up toys or connect with your little one, as you unwind in the evening

Monday's Move: Doorway Chest Opener
Oct 5, 2015

As our body grows accustomed to slouching, our pectoral muscles shorten, which makes it even harder to straighten up. We need to gently and frequently remind those tight muscles to lengthen.

I’m back, baby! The silver lining of Leela waking me up at 2am to start the day (oh jet lag... 🙃) was that I made it to Sandra’s 6:30am class and it was exactly what my aching, disoriented body needed. I felt deeply grateful walking into the studio this morning. There was this inviting freshly brewed coffee smell, relaxing tunes and such a nourishing vibe. Instead of running in the door and falling into the bottomless vortex of my to do list, I’m starting off grounded, determined to focus on one thing at a time. I’m so thankful to my team for making it possible for me to go offline for 3 weeks and have that adventure with my family (especially Julie, who has been answering your emails and calls and keeping things running smoothly through all that crazy weather.) I was thinking on the plane about how there is no “going back” but only moving forwards; as I land back in my life here, it is a life I am actively creating. The work and responsibilities are ones I am choosing. I need to embrace the tidal wave instead of fighting impossibly to hold it back, let it wash over me, learn to surf. I’m as ready as I’ll ever be. I look forward to seeing you soon in class! ❤️ #kwawesome #dtklove #kwyoga #ammayogakw @san_marie_yoga @julieraineault
Day 2: we chased our “tour guides” Zac & Leela around 2000 year old Buddhist caves. Very cool (though it was very hot!) There is magic in impossibly old sculptures and quiet, cavernous spaces. Climbing winding steps, Leela said “I’m not going to fall to my death because I’m holding your hand.” 😄 Cold pop in a glass bottle tastes amazing when you are on the verge sunstroke. We napped most of the afternoon.
Bodies need to move! We visited an uncle of Paz’s yesterday who is probably in his mid-70’s, and I was struck by how comfortable he looked sitting cross-legged on a hard surface, his legs practically parallel with the ground. In Canada, we spend too much time sitting in chairs! So many of us can’t sit on the floor or squat or get up off the ground with ease. I know back home it isn’t exactly tree-climbing weather, but maybe you could watch Netflix from your living room floor tonight. Tune into your body and see how it wants to move. #kwyoga #functionalmovement
If you’ve been wondering what this #ammachallenge is that we’ve been talking about, it’s an opportunity to reflect on what’s important to you, to figure out small, tangible steps, and to enjoy the accountability of having a supportive community to share the journey with. To make it more fun, we’ve got a bunch of great prizes donated by some of our business neighbours, and we’ll do a big draw in February. Every time you post about your goals/intentions/progress using the hashtag #ammachallenge you’ll get another entry in the draw. You can also post in our private Facebook Group “Amma Community” where there has been some wonderful conversation. Inspire each other, celebrate your tiny victories and keep in real when it’s not going so well! We are all in process. There’s also a sticker chart in the studio where people have been tracking their classes in Jan. Every four classes you attend in January earns you a FREE class in February to use or gift. 🤗 Can’t wait to read your posts and see you on the mat! 😘 #kwawesome #dtklove #kwyoga #ammayogakw
Are you growing a human? Do you wish your partner knew how to help relieve your low back discomfort by pushing on your hips like this? 😉 Jackie and Sandra have all kinds of gems to share with you in their Prenatal Birth-Partner Yoga workshop this Sunday from 3-5pm. There is still room for a few more pairs. It will be a beautiful opportunity to connect with your person and build a toolkit of support strategies for pregnancy, labour and birth. You will also share a yoga practice together, enjoying some much deserved self-care and strengthened connection with your partner. ❤️ Learn more and sign up at www.ammayoga.ca/prenatal-partner #kwawesome #kwyoga #dtklove #ammayogakw
Throwback to me & Zac in the Beaches. 😍 Mamas are strong! We should feel great in our bodies. @sarah_deporay has a mission to support moms in reclaiming their postpartum bodies. Her 6-week series that starts next Wednesday (12:45-2:15) is all about understanding what is happening with your core and how to move forwards. We shouldn’t settle for discomfort, for leaking, for avoiding the activities we enjoy. We can’t go back - our bodies grew and birthed humans! We can connect to ourselves as we are in this moment, and feel confident in our unique path to healing and re-training. We can get stronger then we’ve ever been. ❤️ Each week will included education AND movement. I hope you can join us. Seize the moment at www.ammayoga.ca/reclaim 💪🏼 #kwawesome #dtklove #kwyoga #ammayogakw
Snuck out to @ambrosiacornerbakery to catch up on some things before I get lost in the rabbit hole of packing. Enjoying a coffee in my own mug from #themugshelf ☕️ I love that detail of serving your drink in your own mug that lives in your neighbourhood cafe. ❤️ Also, this is the best-smelling office ever! I’m trying my first babka, and then I might need to try something else... 😋#entrepreneurperks #mycfna
Okay mamas, this is the series you’ve been waiting for. If you don’t recognize your body, are concerned about your core recovery, feeling any pelvic pain or discomfort, leaking when you run/jump/laugh, frustrated by the list of things you “shouldn’t” do, and you just want to feel strong and like yourself again... Sarah is an amazing wealth of information and support. She will help you meet yourself where you are at with compassion, empower you with knowledge, and carve out a unique path forward. Each session will include information AND movement. Whether you are 6 months or 6 years postpartum, it’s time to reclaim your postpartum body. The early bird price ends TODAY, so sign up quick ➡️ www.ammayoga.ca/reclaim ❤️ Tag your mama friends who could use this. #kwawesome #dtklove #kwyoga #ammayoga
NEXT SUNDAY join Manuela our Pilates instructor for this important workshop as we enter a slippery time of year! ❄️ I almost wiped out walking to my car yesterday, and I was grateful for my stabilizing muscles that helped me regain my footing. These muscles are often underused in our day-to-day life and lose strength over time, and we don’t realize it until we wipe out. Manuela will be sharing exercises to balance, mobilize and strengthen, retraining our body to work automatically. 💪🏼We’ll even practice falling (in a very safe way with lots of options so you can work within your own comfort level.) Sign up here: www.ammayoga.ca/falling 🌬#kwawesome #dtklove #kwyoga #ammayoga

I wanted to set the tone for my day with a 10 minute meditation, but this one was determined to be with me. She kept bursting in the room, and when I explained what I was doing she said she wanted to do it too. So I let go of the plan. We chose a kids exercise about calm and she curled up in my lap while I sat. Instructed to notice my senses - of sight, hearing, touch - I noticed my daughter, my breath, the early morning light. It was a beautiful start to my day, better then the idea in my head. ❤️ Today, when a moment isn’t what you expected, can you abandon the plan and let it be exactly what it is?
